'Way of the Cross' : Bishop Magezi Emphasizes Forgiveness, Repentance and Love

Today is Good Friday, a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary.

Good Friday is a very important day for all Christians and celebrations start with The Stations of the Cross or The Way of the Cross ,which is a symbol of Union with Christ.

When Jesus was forced to carry the cross to Calvary, Simon of Cyrene was compelled by the Romans to carry the cross of Jesus as Jesus was taken to his crucifixion, according to all three Synoptic Gospels. This symbolizes peoples’ unity with Christ in pain as he trailed to the cross.

Good Friday is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday before Easter Sunday, and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover.

On this day, Members of many Christian denominations, including the Anglican, Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Lutheran, Methodist, Oriental Orthodox and Reformed traditions, observe Good Friday with fasting and church services.

Our team of reporters joined different teams of Christian faithful on different processions of the Way of the Cross.

The processions from Bufunda C.O.U , Ruhoko C.O.U, Kigarama C.OU and All Saints C.O.U Kagongo converged at Millennium SACCO where after they walked to St.Paul’s Cathedral, led by Bishop Amos Magezi , for the main service.

Leading service, West Ankole Dioceses Bishop, Magezi appealed to Christians to embrace forgiveness and always be thankful to Jesus Christ for dying our Sins.

Another procession of Catholic faithful walked from Rwemirabyo to Bubaare catholic parish for the main mass led by Fr.Thailo Eladius.

The clergy mainly emphasized peace, love and self sacrifice, a message that was mainly echoed by most clergy across the country.

In Kampala, the celebrations started with the walk of the cross, led by the Uganda Joint Christian Council(UJCC) with Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Stanley Ntagali leading the procession of the way of the cross from All Saints Church Nakasero to Old Kampala as a way of commemorating Jesus Christ’s last day on Earth as a man.
