Bundibugyo: Residents blame poor service delivery on civil servants' absenteeism
Residents of Bundibugyo have blamed poor service delivery in the district on civil servants who abscond from duty. They particularly pointed out staff from the works, water, agriculture and education departments as well as the Sub County and Parish Chiefs.
The outcry comes days after a report by the District Public Accounts Committee which indicated that some civil servants have absconded from duty for more than two months yet they are still receiving salaries.
According to the findings, the Sub County headquarters of Busaru, Bubugwanga, Ntandi and Bugusu have been abandoned while offices are left open in other sub-counties with no staff to attend to the needs of the residents.
Now, the District Chief Administrative Officer Amon Agaba says his office will carry out investigations and take action against those found guilty of absenteeism. He says he has already written to the civil servants demanding for an explanation on the concerns as raised by residents.
Charles Asaba, the chairperson of the District Public Accounts Committee says that the district is wasting resources by paying civil servants for no work done. He faults the chief administrative officer for not monitoring the workers' arrival and departure time.
