WATER DAY CELEBRATIONS: Kamwenge district LC5 chairperson emphasizes hand washing


Kamwenge district local council five chairperson, Aggrey Natuhamya has emphasized hand washing before eating food and and after visiting places of convenience(toilets) in order to avoid contracting preventable diseases like cholera and diarrhea among others .

Natuhamya made the call yesterday while presiding over the district World water day celebrations under the theme; ‘’ Nature for water’’ which coincided with the closing of the sanitation week organized by the district under the theme: ‘Good sanitation. How is your leader?’’.

The celebrations were held at Kamuganguzi SDA Church in Kanara Sub-County, in Kitagwenda, Kamwenge district.

Natuhamya also asked leaders from local council 1 to the top leadership to be exemplary in promoting sanitation among locals through constructing racks, kitchens and pit latrines as a way of fighting such diseases.

Meanwhile, Kamwenge district Water Officer, Annet Kobusingye Birungi revealed that 18% of households in Kamwenge district use bushes as places of convenience, adding that out of the 621 villages in the district, only 16 villages have improved places of convenience thus urging leaders to intervene.
