Floods destroy property in Rukiga

Transport and business in Muhanga town council in Rukiga district was today paralyzed following a heavy down pour that lasted for about 6-hours , causing floods that destroyed property worth millions of shillings.

The resident district commissioner for Rukiga, Emmy Ngabirano said that almost all the retail shops and food stores among others were flooded. He was, however, quick to note that no death had been reported.

The retail shops and buildings like Kanyabwera hardware, Divine hotel, Tian B studio, Muhanga cosmetics centre, Muhanga police post, Kalita transporters offices among others were submerged in water.

According to the head teacher of Muhanga Golden day and boarding primary school Oscar Akampurira, the down pour that started at 10:00am lasted for about three hours, forcing the locals to flee to their neighbors.

Akampurira says that part of Muhanga Golden day and boarding primary school was affected but it never affected pupils in the school. By press time, equipment including a grader were being used to help rescue affected residents and their property.

Now, Muhanga Town Council Town Clerk , Eudia Mutabazi says that they are assessing the damagesso as to seek help from the government.
