Namuganza Summoned over Threatening Kadaga’s Life
The Busoga Parliamentary Caucus has summoned Persis Namuganza, a Member of Parliament for Bukuno County to appear before the committee to respond to a number of allegations levied against her, including threatening to kill the Speaker of Parliament.
The state minister for Lands is expected to appear before the committee on Friday March 9 in the Government’s chief whip’s Boardroom at Parliament to defend herself against the allegations that she supposedly committed by writing on social media and physically while appearing at a certain function in Bukono, Namutumba district.
The allegations include abusing and insulting both physically and on social media the people of Kamuli district and other parts of Namutumba district as being “so filthy and unhygienic” in the whole of Busoga region, insulting and branding the Speaker of Parliament and MP for Kamuli, Rebecca Kadaga, as being “unqualified, unfit and improper to hold the office of the speaker”.
Busoga MPs in their Wednesday statement also claim that Namuganza said that Kadaga had outlived her usefulness as MP for Kamuli and she also threatened “to kill and harm the speaker” as well as incited members of public to harm Kadaga by pelting stones and other blunt objects at her.
Namuganza is also accused of belittling the Kyabazinga of Busoga Gabula Nadiope IV.
“The allegations levied against you are as serious, wild and peculiar in the right minds of the Busoga people and the rest of Uganda. If proven to be true could lead to criminal and civil prosecution,” part of the summon states.
Signed by the vice chairman of the committee Moses Bakyeku, the summon also indicates that if Namuganza does not appear before the committee, it will go ahead and hear the allegations in her absence and will determine the action to take against her.
Namuganza and Kadaga rivalry stems from the disagreement on who should be the Kyabazinga of Busoga; while Kadaga supports William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope, Namuganza believes Prince Edward Columbus Wambuzi, the son to the former Kyabazinga Wako Muloki – is the true king.
