Bushenyi: Municipal Engineer Arrested over alleged misappropriation of 336 million shillings

Police in Bushenyi yesterday arrested the Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipal Engineer, Deus Baingana who is in hot soup over the alleged misappropriation of 336 million shillings, received in the first and second quarters in the 2017-2018 financial year , for road works.

Police picked up Baingana following a demonstration by residents against poor road works. The angry residents led by Apollo Kakonge, the Executive Director Western Ankole Civil Society Forum, Umar Muhanguzi, Pison Mugizi and Mackay Twijukye pitched camp at the Engineer's office and blocked him from leaving before they escorted him to the district head quarters.

The Bushenyi Resident District Commissioner, Peter Mugisha, and Mayor, Jackson Kamugasha held an hour long meeting with the protesters and other stakeholders.

It was after the meeting, that the Police led by the Bushenyi District Police Commander, Ibrahim Lutalo led Baingana to Bushenyi Police Station and locked him up.

Baingana's trouble stems from shoddy works executed on several roads among them the 3 kilometre Liberation - Nyamiko road, 1km on Basajja-Buramba road, tarmacking the road leading to Bushenyi state Lodge in Bushenyi town and Basajja-Rwemirokora road in Ishaka town among others.
