Education authorities in Ntungamo district yesterday closed 40 Nursery and primary schools due to lack of licenses and substandard infrastructure.

The 40 closed are all located in Rugarama and Nyakyeera sub counties in Ntungamo district. Among the closed schools include Kyempene parents’ school, Karama SDA School, Ngoma Nursery school, Katungamo Nursery PS and St Mary’s High school in Ntungamo Municipality.

According to the Ntungamo district Resident District Commission, Justine Mbabazi, the closed schools never had operational licenses as others lacked standard infrastructure in terms of classrooms and dormitories.

Fred Bahati, the Ntungamo district Inspector of schools said that the operation is ongoing to unearth all illegally operating schools in the district.
