Kasese: Prime Minister Rugunda Calls for Protection of Tourist Attractions
The Prime Minister of Uganda, Ruhakana Rugunda yesterday graced the 3rd wild life ceremony, held at Nyakasanga play grounds, Nyamwamba division in Kasese municipality.
Speaking at the function, Rugunda said that, wild life continues to attract tourists in Uganda, adding that the animals numbers have been steadily growing moving from 500 – 4000 in 2006, to the current 2 million.
He added that, this has helped Uganda’s tourism earnings to shoot up, from 142 million dollars in 2006, to 375 million dollars, of USA.
Rugunda urged the people around national parks to promote the tourism industry.
He further stressed that, much as the population of the wild animals has increased, there is a need to protect the big cats; lions, chimpanzee, tigers among others.
Speaking at the same function, the Kasese municipality member of parliament, Robert centenary explained that, in 2016, Kasese received 3,000 visitors and assured the people that, they will receive electricity and water, if the game reserves are conserved well.
