Kasese LC5 Cahirperson accuses RDC of facilitating land injustices
The Kasese District Chairperson LC5, Sibendire Bigogo has accused the Kasese RDC , Lt. Col James Mwesigye of facilitating land injustices in kasese including displacement of communities illegally.
Sibendire Bigogo who was appearing before the commission led by lady justice Catherine Bamugemereire at Margarita hotel yesterday, pinned Mwesigye for conniving with pastoralists in Kasese to grab huge chunks of land in the district.
Bigogo reported to the commission that Mwesigye has continuously frustrated court processes of resolving land conflicts between the cultivators and pastoralists in the conflict zone areas of Ibuga, Bigando, Nkoko and Rwehingo totaling to 15,000 acres.
He cited a case whereby a joint government technical team report recommended the giving out of Rwehingo and Bigando land between pastoralists and cultivators in a ratio of 3:1 in favour of pastoralists.
He says this recommendation was influenced by the office of Mwesigye who is alleged to have worked together with pastoralists to get a huge proportion on claims that they have cows which require enough land for grazing yet in actual sense it was the cultivators who deserved enough land.
The commission is yet to hear from the Kasese resident district commissioner on the matter.
