Self proclaimed Ankole King Released on Bail
The self proclaimed Ankole King, Asiimwe Umar Rubambansi Ntare V1 and four others with whom he has been detained at Kyamugorani government prison since February 20, 2018 have today been released on bail by the Mbarara Grade one Magistrate court.
The other four are; his cabinet members; Max Muhumuza, Joseph Kankiriho, Wycliffe Amanya and Brenda Katushemerirwe.
On 20 February, 2018, the group appeared before Mbarara Grade One Magistrate, Sanyu Mukasa who charged them with promoting sectarianism, establishing a kingdom association, unlawful assembly, defying minister’s orders and inciting violence.
The said statements were made earlier this month, when Asiimwe told a press conference at his Itaaba palace in Rwampara county that Gender Minister Janat Mukwaya, a Muganda, had no right to determine what happens in Ankole.
Appearing before Mbarara grade one magistrate this morning, Sanyu Mukasa, the five together with their sureties were bailed for 3million shillings each non cash. They are expected back in court on 12th April this year.
