Museveni vows to find a solution for land matters,Hails Pro-age Limit MPs
President Yoweri Museveni has vowed to find a solution for land disputes across the country.
The President who was speaking during the celebrations organized by the Government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa in Kiboga district yesterday, to celebrate the December 2017 constitutional amendment to remove presidential age limits appealed to the public to keep calm on issues concerning land.
Museveni's statement comes amidst a new land recommendation made by the Land Probe chaired by Lady Justice Catherine Bamugemereire to abolish the Mailo land tenure system which is a big asset to Kingdoms in the country.
Buganda Kingdom's Premier Charles Peter Mayiga has since protested the recommendation saying that any attempt to scrap the Mailo land tenure system would be met with outright resistance.
Meanwhile, President Museveni described the 317 MPs that voted in favour of the presidential age limit removal as the new historicals since they contributed to the stability of the country.
“I thank the 317 Members of Parliament for the good job they performed. I congratulate them because they have become historical by contributing towards the stability of the country. The opposition provoked us. They threatened the 317 MPs who have spearheaded the move to streamline their country,” he said.
He presented awards of exemplary contribution to the constitution amendment process to Peter Ogwang, Patrick Nakabale and Denis Obua.
The Vice-President, Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, Cabinet Ministers, members of NRM Central Executive Committee as well as those of the National Executive Committee, among others, attended the celebrations.
