Mbarara: Local leaders urged to play a leading role in maintaining roads

Local leaders in sub counties are being urged to play a leading role in maintaining access roads, rather than thinking that, the district and the central government, will do this task.

Buraziyo Kyabwisho, the chairman Kakiika division in Mbarara municipality observes that, many community access roads have gone from bad to worse, because they have not been properly maintained.

He explains that, after availing equipment, the district cannot be responsible for maintaining these access roads, which means that local council leaders, must take up the responsibility and mobilize communities to do emergency works on them, in case they are damaged or in case drainage channels get blocked.
