Farmers call for Change in the Privatisation Policy of Acaricides
Godfrey Baryomunsi, the Mbarara district Secretary for production and District Vice Chairperson has called on farmers to make use of sub county extension workers and other genuine veterinary doctors in
seeking technical advice and knowledge as some diseases just need technical treatment.
Baryomunsi made the appeal yesterday at a one day stakeholders meeting held at Mbarara district Veterinary Small Animal Clinic Kamukuzi that was organized by the National Drug Authority NDA attended by farmers, veterinary staff and extension workers.
He also appealed to the National Drug Authority (NDA) officials to take farmers’ concerns seriously as farmers have continued to lose a lot due to high presence of fake chemicals on the market.
This was after farmers urged the government to change privatization policy on Acaricides importation and monopolize it to reduce counterfeits that have caused heavy losses. They noted that the importing firms are business oriented therefore they mind only on profits.
In response, Dr. Edward Kasenene the drug regulatory officer at NDA, promised that the recommendations reached at in the meeting, will be forwarded to the concerned authorities so that they can be considered.
