Parliament’s Appointments Committee starts vetting newly appointed judges today
Parliament’s Appointments Committee , chaired by speaker, Rebecca Kadaga is today expected to start the vetting exercise of judges who were last week appointed by President Yoweri Museveni.
Four and 10 judges were appointed to the Court of Appeal and the High Court respectively.
Court of Appeal nominees include; Justice Christopher Madrama, Justice Stephen Musota, Justice Percy Tuhaise and Justice Ezekiel Muhanguzi.
Paul Gadenya, Joyce Kavuma, Olive Kazaarwe Mukwaya, Alex Ajiji, Tadeo Asiimwe and Emmanuel Baguma were appointed to the High Court. Others are Musa Sekaana, Richard Wabwire, Jane Abodo, and Cornelia Sabiiti.
The nominees will defend their appointment in the vetting process, that ends on Thursday, amidst controversy over some of them lacking minimum ethical standards.
Male Mabirizi Kiwanuka, a city lawyer petitioned Parliament, seeking to block the approval of Justices Musota, Madrama and Alex Macky, citing misconduct and discrimination among others.
