KIRUHURA: Coffee farmers urged not to rush for money by selling immature coffee
The permanent secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Ben Kumanya has asked coffee farmers in Kitura Kashongi Kiruhura District not to rush for money by selling their coffee when it is immature.
While representing the minister for Local Government, Tom Butime at the official commissioning of a coffee huller in Nyaburunga I Kitura, Ben Kumanya pointed out that many farmers have rushed for little money and sold their harvests when they are mature enough, forgetting that they are putting the coffee standard at risk.
He promised to work with the minister for Local Government so they respond to some of the challenges that coffee growers in the area do face, including poor markets, poor roads, lack of Hydro Electric Power and supporting farmers’ cooperatives.
Adson Atuhairwe the District Councillor for Kitura Sub – County called upon residents to put more effort and produce more coffee since the new machine needs a large volume in a day.
