Kamwenge: Priest decries rate at which Ugandans are being misled by witch doctors

The Kamwenge Catholic Parish Priest, Rev Fr. David Byamukama has expressed concern at the rate which Ugandans are being misled and cheated by witch doctors.

Speaking to patients and their attendants at Padre-Pio Health Center III in Kamwenge district yesterday during the visit of Fort Portal Diocesan Bishop His Grace Robert Muhairwa Akiiki to mark 28th world day of the sick that is celebrated on the 11th February annually, Fr. David Byamukama said he has learnt that a big section of the population has on several occasions lost money to witch doctors after being promised to be assisted in sorting out all their problems.

He added that even those with illnesses that require medical attention have always been rushed to the witch doctors and end up losing lives because they miss out on the required treatment.

Rev Fr. Byamukama said people should only have hopes in God as their savior than witch doctors, further urging patients to get closer to God through prayers and remain hopeful , both in good health and in sickness.

Meanwhile, leading mass at Kamwenge Catholic Parish in Kamwenge district during the celebrations of 28th world day of the sick, Rt. Rev Bishop Robert Muhairwa Akiiki has urged health workers especially in government hospitals to provide adequate necessary care to the sick as well as the elderly and shun greed for money which can cause death among the sick.
