A number of schools in Ibanda continue to excel, UCE results depict

A number of schools in Ibanda have continued to perform well over the years in the Uganda Certificate of Education Examinations (UCE); with the 2017 results released yesterday depicting that most schools even performed better than 2016.

Among the schools that excelled are;Citizen High school, Ibanda secondary school, Equatorial college, Alliance Senior Secondary and Kibubura girls secondary school.

However, some schools like St.Kizito secondary school Nyahoora Ryabatenga secondary school, Rwenkobwa secondary school, and Peas Aspire High school Kashangura performed poorly.

Meanwhile, The South Western Region Uganda National Teachers Union(UNATU ) chairperson, Alex Kwikiriza has blamed poor performance in schools on what he called ‘’drilling of learners and illogical competition’’, mainly by private schools, without putting into consideration promotion of quality.

In an exclusive interview with Rwenzorifm Eiraka radio this morning , Kwikiriza said ''drilling of learners and illogical competition'' are the major reasons why many students end up failing in the next levels of education.

According to UNEB , out of the 320,119 candidates who turned up for the exams, 287,350 students passed while 27,955 failed. 31,338 students passed with First grade whereas second had 53,665 and third grade had 70,797. 131,660 passed in fourth grade and about 27,955 got F 9.

MEANWHILE, Authorities at St. Paul’s Secondary School Bukinda in Rukiga district have denied reports of examination malpractice. The school was among the exam centres whose results were withheld over malpractice. Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) withheld results of 4,525 candidates across the country.

However, the school’s deputy Head teacher in Charge of discipline Agnes Atuhaire says UNEB unfairly withheld their results ,further blaming the exam body for failing to control the circulation of examinations which led to their leakage.
