Speaker Kadaga tasks East African Legislative Assembly to foster integration
The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga , has tasked the East African Legislative Assembly to implement both the Monitory Union and common market protocol while in their five year term in office.
While opening the fourth sitting one day orientation of the Assembly,Kadaga asked the regional assembly to foster integration.
Meanwhile, the newly elected Speaker for the East African Legislative Assembly, Martin Ngoga who hails from Rwanda implored the regional assembly to foster unity so as to serve better during their tenure.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is the Chair of the Summit of EAC Heads of State, is expected to deliver the State of EAC Address to the Assembly today.
The Assembly shall during the three-week period debate three key Bills; the East African Community Oaths Bill, 2017, the East African Community Statistics Bureau Bill, 2017 and the East African Community Monetary Institute Bill, 2017.
IN A SEPARATE DEVELOPMENT; President Museveni yesterday noted that the 1995 constitution gives Parliament too much Powers that among other things have led to wastage of resources and lack of coordination.
Museveni was speaking at the official opening of the 20th Judges Conference at Speke Resort Munyonyo under the theme: "An inclusive judiciary for sustainable development".
