Rubirizi district council resolves to enact a law prohibiting early marriage

Rubirizi district council has resolved to enact a law prohibiting early marriage in the district.

The law follows a partnership with Community Volunteer Initiative for Development (COVOID), a local Nongovernmental organization operating in the district and it is aimed at fighting early marriages and teenage pregnancy which stands at 65% in the district.

Betty Bataringaya , the executive director Community Volunteer Initiative for Development says that the resolutions comes at an appropriate time to fight the vice.

Stephen Katesigwa, the district councillor for Katungulu sub-county called for the involvement of the locals if the law is to be embraced.

John Mubangizi the Rubirizi district vice chairman tasked the council to institute a committee that will draft the law.
