More Arrests as Army Takes Tough Stand on Boda Boda 2010 Militia

Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) has reportedly arrested Abdul Kitata, patron of notorious militia group Bodaboda 2010.

Sources said Kitata was arrested after two of his members confessed to CMI that they had participated in the gruesome killing of Case Clinic Accountant, Francis Ekalungar.

Army and defence spokesman, Brig Richard Karemire, had earlier confirmed to Daily Monitor the arrest of two Bodaboda 2010 members but could not confirm Mr Kitata's arrest.

"Don't look at them as Bodaboda riders but they are suspects in a crime CMI is following," Brig Karemire said.

Ekalungar was kidnapped on his way to bank Shs15m and his body was discovered burnt beyond recognition in Kajjansi along Entebbe Road. "I cannot confirmed Mr Kitata arrest now," Brig Karemire said.

Bodaboda 2010 is a militia group loyal to the Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura, who even on Wednesday said the group has greatly helped police to fight crime in Kampala.

Bodaboda 2010 members on Friday night staged a protest in Natete blocking roads with tyres and logs.

Police fired bullets to disperse them according to Kampala Metropolitan police spokesman, Luke Owoyesigyire

Reign of Terror

Police last year had to use heavy force to contain Boda Boda 2010 which was fighting a rival faction.

Boda Boda 2010 thugs were armed with pangas ad machetes, leaving a trail of bloodshed and destruction.

As if this was not enough, Boda Boda 2010, which claims being supportive of President Museveni, attacked and injured pupils who were traveling to a function in Nkumba.

Despite being involved in all these criminal activities, none of Boda Boda 10 members have been penalized.

The gang’s leader Abdalla Kitatta, who doubles as the NRM chairman for Rubaga, boasts about his strong ties with Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kayihura.

The IGP has since been blamed for not taking a firm action against the group.

On the hand, Kayihura says the group has helped security to contain opposition protests in Kampala.
