East Ruwenzori Diocese: Rev. Canon Turyasingura to be consecrated and enthroned as 2nd Bishop today
Rev. Canon George K. Turyasingura will today be consecrated and enthroned as the 2nd Bishop of East Ruwenzori Diocese at St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Kamwenge.
Rev. Canon George. Turyasingura will be succeeding Rt. Rev. Edward A. Bamucwanira who has been Bishop of East Ruwenzori since 9th August, 2009.
Canon Turyasingura was born in 1968 in Nyamucengere, Buhara-Ndorwa County, Kabale District. His family migrated to Bigodi, Kamwenge District in 1980.
Amidst challenges of growing up in a polygamous family, Canon Turyasingura completed his primary school from Rwengobe Primary School in 1984.
Canon Turyasingura got saved in 1989 at the age of 21 and has since then lived a transformed lifestyle.
It was at this time that he decided to go for training in 1990 at Kyabenda Divinity College and completed a Lay Readers Certificate Course.
He was ordained Deacon in 1998 after completing a certificate course in Theology at Bishop Balya Theological College.
He was then posted as Curate at Kyabenda Parish and has served in various capacities as Principal Kyabenda Divinity College, Parish Priest of Kabuga CoU, Sub Dean at St. Stephens Cathedral, Kamwenge where he had been the Diocesan Secretary of East Ruwenzori Diocese before being elected 2nd bishop by the House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda on 11th July 2017.
Canon Turyasingura is married to Juliet Turyasingura, and they are blessed with six children. He loves making friends, listening to gospel music and reads educative literature whenever he is free.
