KAMWENGE: STRAY ELEPHANT FROM QUEEN ELIZABETH PARK KILLS ONE
Residents of Nsinda 1 Kakasi parish, Buhanda Sub-County, in Kitagwenda, Kamwenge district are in panic after an elephant strayed into their area from Queen Elizabeth National Park.
According to residents who talked to our reporter on Friday evening, they started hunting down the animal on Wednesday after they saw its footsteps in the area.
They are crying out to the Uganda Wild life Authority officials to come to their rescue as the deadly animal poses a great threat to their lives.
They add that the stray elephant has so far destroyed property and gardens.
Tumusiime Ronald, a crime preventer at Buhanda Sub-County in Kamwenge district said, after seeing the elephant, he informed security officials in the sub-county who tipped Uganda wild life authority officers for further action.
He added that during the dry season, wild animals escape from the park to the villages, where they prey on domestic animals such as goats, sheep and pigs.
One yet to be identified person has reportedly been killed by the wild animal kyakabingo, according to area residents. However, no other injuries have so far been reported.
